Mild Steel Angle
Available to buy Mild Steel Angle or 'Mild Steel Angle Iron,' is part of our extensive stock range at Aluminium Warehouse. What's more, we can supply mild steel angle in up to 6 meter lengths, to meet the demands of your next project.
Mild steel is known as a ferrous metal as it has a high iron content. In turn this offers good magnetic properties. The composition of mild steel is suitable for most general engineering applications and it's popularity ever increases due to it's low metal price and excellent value for money. Delivery rates are often calculated on weight. This could offer an even greater saving if you're only paying for the material you need.
Whether you're looking for equal angles or unequal angles, when you buy metal online with us, there are a variety of sizes to choose from. From 3mm thick to 5mm thick, all our angle sections are stocked either in 1m, 2m, 3m, 4m, 5m and 6 metre lengths. Our well-equipped facility can readily supply standard lengths of angle section or on request, you can buy mild steel angle cut to size. Metal cutting is a free unlimited service using our top specification saws and highly trained operators for the best possible precision.
Grade S275 steel metal is the most commonly used grade in general construction. Due to its low carbon steel content it is easier to both machine and weld and is a more ductile material than higher-carbon steels.
What mild steel is used for?
The two flat surfaces of our angle iron steel join at a 90° angle to form an 'L' shape. The vertical and horizontal extension of the mild steel angle offer strength in two directions. This structural shape serves well in both construction and building industries. Commonly used in making frames, joist supports, lintels, shelves, angle bracket, vehicles and maintenance projects.
Will mild steel rust?
Unlike stainless steel, mild steel does not display a high resistance to corrosion. However it can be greatly improved with a surface treatment particularly on the exposed parts. S275 is also susceptible to rust. To enhance the appearance of any angle bar and protect from rust and corrosion, we recommend to apply the right metal paint, metal paint spray or red oxide primer and paint. As seen with RSJ’s, these are typically supplied pre-treated with a red oxide primer. If extra corrosion resistance is needed, it is worth considering using either a galvanised steel or stainless steel equivalent product. We have ample choice of stainless steel angle, flat bar, round bar and square bars.
